I need a new type of garment and maybe you do, too. I recently joined the with-it crowd and got a smart phone. I love it for how it can capture the color combo of house paint and landscaping on that walk in the hills or my cat’s ability to nap anywhere while making a sculpture of herself or the image of a new garment I’m about to ship off but need to remember. I like having the long term wish list of books and movies, the grocery list and my calendar all in one place. And now, I actually LIKE texting my kids – I can make whole, grammatical sentences with a few swipes of my finger.
And the pedometer is great. Since I’ve discovered that it blares a fanfare when I reach my goal, I’ve become obsessed trying to take 10,000 steps every day. It means I must wear my cell phone not just on dog walks but all through the workday. Each step I take from house to studio and back, from bolt to button to sewing machine, and the many laps around my cutting table all add to the total. Carrying wasn’t a problem with my old flip phone. But now no pocket is the right size for this gargantuan piece of equipment I now own. I won’t carry my purse all day. Bigger pockets might work, but the phone’s weight shifts the whole garment to one side and it bobbles along like a useless appendage. No, too, to a knapsack.
Come see my new App-Sack – a mobile tool belt of sorts. It’s a tie-on pouch to keep your phone handy while registering every step in your day. Plain or striped: $30. Deluxe models double as a short wrap cover-up. I’ll also have mitts in various weights – to keep your texting fingers free, of course!
